Somebody peed on the tree right next to where i was sitting at the park
Freddie, a dog, gets to pee anywhere he damn well pleases and it’s totally fine
But this 65 year old black guy did it and i called him out, saying “there’s a porta-potty right there” He did not take it well at first. “Smoking is illegal I do it anyway” “I don’t know when i got so militant” “Tired of people judging me and scrutinizing me”
So much to think about from that interaction
It’s the law…a dumb one
“It’s not my job to enforce it”
And what if somebody was beating the shit out of a child?
How do we draw these lines

Retros
Somehow this “what went well” “what didn’t” “opportunities to improve” is the standard
But I haven’t seen it work well
Here’s an idea: As a team come up with questions and randomly select a few each retro.
Some questions I like:
- What did I learn?
- What still puzzles me?
- What was valuable?
- What was costly?
-
“Let talk about [money/whatever]” or “have a conversation” “like adults”
As if most adults do that…

Some people are comfort [energy] vampires
Others are comfort creators
Pay attention those that are creators, avoid the vampires
